    4worldlovers: The idea of a rotunda by the River Torrens was suggested in the early 1880s as part of a plan by the Adelaide City Council to improve the river and its surrounds. The council proposed to dam the river, create a lake and construct a public esplanade to the west of City Bridge.

    Wealthy businessman, pastoralist, parliamentarian and philanthropist Sir Thomas Elder heard of these plans when he was holidaying in the United Kingdom. He was aware that the mayor and the council had been unsuccessful in their attempts to raise funds for a rotunda to add to the public’s enjoyment of the lake side. Elder wrote to the council offering to donate one. As the Advertiser reported on 23 August 1881,

    … he thought the occasion might be made a fitting one for presenting the council with a rotunda or band stand. He stated that he had ordered a rotunda to be made and sent to the colony, and he asked the council to accept it as a mark of his appreciation of the improvements they had carried out and his interest in the city.

    Melissa Nguyen: It's just a nice place to relax, you can sit in the little shelter when it rains. If you're lucky, you might even find some wildlife approaching you, its really endearing, the animals are fantastic, believe me. A black goose approached me and let me get real close to it. Really a once in a lifetime experience, though i haven't been to any festivals, i can see that they're really fun.

    Eddie Uchenna: Our trip to Elder Park happened to align with the OzAsia Festival, or perhaps it was the Dumpling Festival. The park was clean and well-kept, lit up by thousands of lanterns that made for a mesmerizing sight. The lake beside the park added to its picturesque scenery. We also enjoyed a fantastic view of the Adelaide Oval, which is brilliantly lit with rainbow colors at night.

    A large sealed car park with over 150 spaces (including 6 disability parking spaces) is available for park visitors. Enter the car park at the intersection of Hamilton Terrace and Stradbroke Roads.

    The car park is locked between the hours of sunset and sunrise each day.

    Completed in December 2022, the Thorndon Park playground is an all-inclusive play space, with elements for all ages and abilities to enjoy.

    The playground celebrates the diverse and plentiful bird life that Thorndon Park is known for with play zones inspired by flight and nesting, as well as habitat types and food sources. The new playground is designed around eight themes and associated features:

    Gathering: Youth spaces, multi-purpose courts (basketball, netball and futsal), hammock, parkour and ninja warrior course, table tennis tables and smart bench

    Some of the playground’s accessible features include a liberty (wheelchair) swing, vision impaired table tennis table, wheelchair accessible trampolines, raised sand play area, raised water play area, an all-access carousel, Auslan signage, communication boards and accessible pathways.

    The Thorndon Park kiosk and museum are proudly operated by the Rotary Club of Morialta.

    Claire Page: Victoria Park is a great park with lots of space and areas to explore. The toilets are simple but clean. The wetlands are fantastic with lots of birdlife there and in the trees in other areas also. Quite a few places to sit around the large park. There are lots of areas for parking. There is both off leash and on leash areas for walking your dog. Very popular park and has lots of people playing sport.

There are countless green spaces, shady places, paths and other attractions.You can switch between the two sides of the lake via several bridges to explore the different places. From here you also have access to some locations such as the Festival Hall, the main train station and the cricket stadium.The Adelaide Parklands are really beautiful and invite you to linger at any time of the day, definitely visit.

There is also a museum of economic plants. Sounds dull? - we thought so too, but we went in and were enraptured by the place, were in there for nearly an hour.Why? If I describe it, it will sound dull so just give it a go.

    Claire Page: The serves are generous and the food was very good. The menu is a very good range, with a roast of the day, fish of the day and pie of the day as well. There is a great salad bar as well. There are lots of tables and plenty of parking. The toilets are very clean and modern. Service was pretty quick and friendly.

    Guy MALPASS: Visited Pinky Flat to go on a Wine tour run by BBQ BOUYS. Was the best fun you can have on the water! The area is beautiful and green and well maintained. Lots of runners, cyclists and people walking their dogs.
