4worldlovers: A recent focus of my work is the large quantity of discarded plastics circulating through the oceans and seas, destroying ecosystems along the way. Animals mistakenly ingest the microscopic plastic fragments, unable to determine these from plankton, with catastrophic consequences. In this case I have embarked on a research project; collecting discarded plastic from my local beaches to experience how wide spread the problem is and was surprised at how much plastic I found in a relatively short period of time. This range represents a minute proportion of waste that I found locally. I have encapsulated the tiny fragments within handcrafted boxes representing the plankton forms, embedding them within patinated silver seaweed structures.

Interlace Sculptures are made with constant consideration to their immediate environment. During construction, I scrutinise the value of each piece of metal; how one simple addition changes the balance and visual weight of the piece. They are formed using welded stainless steel which is then powder coated and available in three sizes; small, medium and large. Due to the nature of the creative process, no two are exactly alike.

Using a similar approach to my Interlace Sculptures, I have constructed each piece of Interlace Adornment to explore geometric structures which play with light, balance, weight and shadow. Each piece is made with consideration to the body on which it will be placed and how I can challenge the boundaries of traditional adornment to create unique pieces of jewellery which can be worn every day.

It is my ambition as a designer and maker to produce jewellery and objects which are not only uniquely stunning, but also have great meaning to you.
