One of Australia’s biggest alternative music festivals is coming up next month, and lucky for us South Australians, it’s in Port Adelaide at the Pirate Life Brewery and surrounding streets! I’m somehow playing with 3 different bands which is going to be somewhat punishing, but also a lot of fun! The legendary Suicidal Tendencies from the US are headlining amongst some pretty big name Aussie acts.


It’s the first Ivanyi (James Norbert Ivanyi) show in Adelaide for about 5 years so I’m excited to be playing with the boys again in my hometown, including a couple of more recent tunes which are pretty impressive! Here’s one of them that I did a studio playthrough for back at the end of 2020:


In other news, my funky alternative rock band Cliff Racer recently released our second EP entitled ‘That’s the risk you take when you exist’. Check it out here or wherever you stream music. Dyssidia were lucky enough to support Perth Eurovision superstars Voyager on Friday night. We have played with them several times over the years, usually to much smaller crowds, but this time it was a sold out crowd at Adelaide Uni Bar! Absolutely world class performance from the Voyager crew. On the 30th of June, I’ll be doing a one-off show with Adelaide Sepultura tribute band Troops of Doom at The Gov. It’s been a lot of fun learning this hour long high energy set and I can’t wait to play the show which is also a send off show for Adelaide band Hidden Intent before they go off to play some impressive festivals in Europe including Wakken!



Next on the cards is the Adelaide Guitar Festival with Freedom of Fear on the 15th of July which is quite a historic occasion since the festival has somehow never featured a metal band, let alone an extreme metal band (crazy right?). We will be performing a 70 minute set including an old school neo-classical shred cover. Support band to be announced shortly. Tickets available here. Freedom of Fear are also touring in August with mates in Remission and Flaming Wrekage. We will be hitting Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth which I’m excited to be playing for the first time in years.



Finally, Hadal Maw are back with this show in Melbourne for the Carthus album launch. I’ve been wanting to see Myridian for over a decade now so I’m excited for this line-up!

DYSSIDIA ALBUM RECORDING & SHOWS, CLIFF RACER EP RECORDING, FREEDOM OF FEAR PRO SHOT LIVE SET



Since my last update, I recorded the drum tracks for the new Dyssidia album which is very exciting! (see pic below). Plenty of videos to come. We did this at Against the Grain Studio with our long-time sound engineer and good mate Andy Kite. We really pushed ourselves with the song writing on this album, taking a long time to refine the songs, with the result being some of our most complex (but still emotive) material to date. The other guys will be recording their parts over the next few months, but rather than wait until the album is out to play shows, we decided to organise an Adelaide and Melbourne show in May with our Melbourne mates Wallet Inspector (crazy instrumental tech metal) and our Adelaide mates Sines (alternative/progressive rock/metal).

Leaving high-school early to complete a Diploma of Music in 2011, Eli has since developed a reputation in the local & national music scene as a hard-working drummer and educator.

Perhaps most-well known for his work with seminal post-punk band, The Mark of Cain, Eli has been their touring drummer since their 2013 ‘Songs of Third & Fifth’ tour filling in for US rock-drumming legend – John Stanier, to the delight of fans & media alike. Eli continues to work and tour with the act to this day.
