4worldlovers: Hip Hop was developed in the streets of New York in the late 70’s and exploded commercially in the early 80’s.

The true form of hip hop dance is Breakdancing. It was a way in which the youth of the day could express themselves through battling each other through breakdancing in the streets.

The unique aspect of hip hop dance is it is a freestyle form of dance created by the dancers improvisational skills.

The dance form then progressed into various Street Funk Styles of Popping, Locking, Waving, Tutting, Ticking and Gliding.

The dance industry, birth of MTV and explosion of the Michael Jackson phenomenon of the early 80’s then used this style for video clips in the form of Jazz Funk.

These Hip Hop styles which are mainly used in commercial dance schools today are known as fad dances or popularised dance moves.

Today Hip Hop dance and culture has spread all over the world for everyone to enjoy and be a part of.

This has sprouted other hybrid dance forms such as Krumping, Regatton, Tecktonik, New Style and Lyrical Hip Hop and continues to change and evolve.

Swing is a popular dance style in Adelaide, with numerous events and parties where you can show off your skills and socialize with other dancers.

Great place to learn how to dance! Been coming here for a few years and the quality and care from the teachers and team has never been less than exceptional.

Quicksteps is an awesome place to learn how to dance! All the staff are warm and welcoming, and the members are friendly! I have never considered myself a dancer, but I decided to give it a go to try something new, and Quicksteps seemed like the best place to start. I was an absolute beginner, but the teachers made it easy, engaging, and fun to follow the steps and learn new moves. I always left each session energised and smiling! The seated area next to the main dance floor is a great place to meet new people and to relax with a hot or cold drink (yes there's a bar!) before or after your lesson. Plus there are opportunities to perform at the summer and winter balls, which are a blast! Highly recommended!

If you love to dance its a.good place to be meet friends and have fun while learning.to dance. I love it.

I had a great time at QuickSteps. I believe it is the biggest dance studio in Adelaide city. It is tidy, clean and always well maintained. Also, the staff members are very friendly and always say hi to me every time I walk in. This gives me a vey warm community feeling.

Most important all, Quicksteps helped me build up my confidence in dancing and meeting new people. I used to feel socially awkward and nervous when I walk into a room with a big crowds. After few months with QS, I now feel very comfortable to attend any dance parties by myself even though I don't know anyone from the parties.

I love the atmosphere at Quicksteps, very friendly. The instructors are all brilliant, especially at remembering our names!! It feels like a family, and very professional at the same time. Thank you guys.

​Founded by Kirsten Burt in 2004, Pure Funk Dance strives to encourage, inspire and create dance. We are a family that brings dancers together through organized events, workshops, competitions, showcases, social media, charity and fundraisers. Our students and teachers share their passion to inspire others and to join us in making a difference in the dance community.

Our choreographers are experienced in teaching, performance and dance education in Primary and Secondary Schools. We provide a Pure Funk School dance program devoted to excellence in teaching and learning. We at Pure Funk have clearance to work with children and have a Child Safe Environment Policy.
